National Spa Week

This week is National Spa Week, so here's our pick of the best spa breaks.

30th October to 5th November is National Spa Week, which aims to publicise the benefits of regular spa attendance. In honour of this we've put together our spa break ideas, from world class spas in some of our favourite destinations, to properties where you don't even need to leave your villa for a spa treatment.

With work commitments, family, and your social life competing for attention, it can often feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day, and stress can quickly build up without us even realising. We all look forward to holidays as a chance to unwind and leave the worries of everyday life behind, so why not make the most of this time and choose a trip that truly allows you to focus on yourself.

Whether you want access to a world class spa that can give you a total mind and body overhaul, to improve your fitness, indulge in some pampering treatments or simply have some time to yourself where everything is taken care of, there’s an option for you. Our guide to some of the best wellness holidays we have to offer should help you find the perfect place for some ‘me time’.

World Class Spas

If you’re feeling in need of a complete mind and body rejuvenation, then some time spent at one of the world’s top spas could be just what you need. Condé Nast Traveller know their stuff, and so if they recommend a spa as being one of the eight best in the world, take note. These are spas that are serious about your mental and physical wellbeing. Our favourites from the list are conveniently close to some of our luxury villas, perfect for spa days or for incorporating a spa break as part of a longer holiday.

Vair Spa and I Gelsi, Puglia

The Vair Spa at the Borgo Egnazia hotel in Puglia was voted Condé Nast’s ‘most life-changing experience’. From multi-day programs to improve happiness or manage stress, to spa days and single treatments they can tailor your experience exactly to your needs.

Stay at I Gelsi, a carefully restored trullo house in extensive grounds with a tranquil pool area, stunning bathrooms worthy of a boutique hotel, and cook service available, so you can continue your journey of wellbeing back at your villa.

Anassa Spa and Heliades Beach Villa, Cyprus

Voted ‘Most consistent high performer’ Anassa Spa in Latchi, Cyprus styles itself as ‘the Mediterranean’s ultimate retreat’, and has Thalassa spa facilities as well as a range of regionally-inspired treatments and packages.

Stay at Heliades Beach Villa, which has its own gym, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room so you can continue the good work throughout your holiday. The beach at the bottom of the garden can only help your feelings of wellbeing.

On-site Spas

For a sense of real luxury, and unlimited access to spa facilities, then the only real choice is a property with an on-site spa, either in the grounds of your villa, or as part of a resort where you can benefit from the best of both worlds – the privacy of your own house, with all the amenities you could possibly require. There are a range of properties that have spa access included, whether resort-based, where parents can take advantage of the kids’ club to indulge in a little quality time, in-villa treatment rooms where you don’t have to leave the privacy of your hideaway, and even fully staffed villas with therapists on hand.

Villa Azzaytouna, Morocco

Villa Azzaytouna is quite frankly the last word in luxury. This fabulous villa is fully staffed, and that includes massage and beauty therapists on hand for unlimited treatments in the spa.

Shared with a neighbouring villa, there is a hammam and treatment room, and the spa menu offers a range of treatments including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.

If moving to the spa is too much effort, you can choose to indulge in your room or by the pool. With included cook service, and a private pool and separate plunge pool, you’ll be so relaxed you’ll never want to leave!

Anemos House, Thallassa Villas at St Nicholas Bay, Crete

Anemos House offers the best of both worlds, with a master suite with hammam and Jacuzzi bath, and an outside cabin for massage and spa treatments, as well as access to the full facilities of the in-resort Poseidon Spa.

Here you’ll find an indoor heated pool, Turkish steam baths, luxurious treatment rooms and private suites, and a beauty salon. Visit the spa, or choose a treatment in the privacy of your villa – either way, take advantage of the kids’ club to enjoy your experience in peace and quiet!

Fitness Breaks

If improving your fitness or toning up, rather than relaxing and indulging, is your goal, then we have the perfect destinations for an active holiday. Perhaps you can’t do without your gym fix, and a home gym is a must for your holiday. Maybe you’re after some fitness inspiration and would benefit from some personal training sessions or one on one lessons, or is getting outdoors essential for your wellbeing? There are all sorts of options for those looking for a healthy break, from trainers and yoga lessons to great hiking locations and outdoor activities.

Greensleeves, Barbados

Greensleeves is perfect for an active holiday, and its beachfront location makes it great for early morning runs along the beach. You don’t even need to leave the villa to get moving, as the 30m free form private swimming pool is big enough to swim laps, and there’s also a home gym and tennis court.

If you prefer to get fit on the water, then there are kayaks and stand up paddle boards available. Why not book a stand up paddle board yoga class with a teacher on the island? After all that exercise you’ll need to unwind, so it’s lucky that there’s a private chef on hand meaning you can simply relax next to the pool and top up your tan.

Castalia, Corfu

If you need some encouragement to persevere with your fitness regime, or you’d like to bring some inspiration to your work outs, then why not ask Castalia’s concierge to arrange for a personal trainer to visit you at the property? If you’d rather work out solo, then the villa has a home gym and a pilates bed.

Afterwards, ease your aching muscles in the Jacuzzi bath, or indulge in an in villa wellness treatment. Complete your healthy holiday with a feast from the organic vegetable garden, prepared by your private chef.

Total Relaxation

Sometimes, life gets a bit too much, stresses get on top of us, and we need to get away from it all and let someone else take care of us. That’s where our Private Collection comes in, luxury, fully staffed properties where you can completely unwind, without ever needing to leave your villa. Beautiful settings, private pools, cook service, and a host of other services combine to offer an atmosphere of total relaxation. Many of our Private Collection properties have wellness facilities such as spa treatments, personal trainers, home gyms and Jacuzzis, and you’re sure to leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Villa Mare e Monte, Corsica

With sumptuous interiors and a setting surrounded by stunning scenery, as soon as you reach Villa Mare e Monte your stresses will start melting away. From a champagne welcome, to bathrobes and L’Occitane toiletries, everything has been thought of here. Cook service is included, so you can let other people worry about the necessities, and enjoy some time for yourself.

Both the master suite and the garden suite have private hot tubs on the terrace, and there is a generously sized swimming pool and well-equipped private gym. The concierge is on hand daily to assist in making any arrangements you may require, and can organise in villa massage and beauty therapies on request. This truly is a luxurious escape.

Sa Terra Rotja, Mallorca

We all want something different from a wellness holiday, and Sa Terra gives you the freedom to choose. If you just want to relax then the beautiful pool area is the perfect place to chill out in a hammock or on a sun lounger. The large private pool is ideal for some gentle exercise, and to continue your feeling of wellness, the concierge can arrange in villa treatments.

If getting fit and getting back to nature are important to your wellbeing, then there is a tennis court on the estate, coastal paths to hike, and the concierge will be happy to organise yoga and swimming lessons, tennis coaching, bicycle hire, and a range of other activities. All this in a stunning rural setting, and with cook service included.
